Klein does not go into details about our climate change emergency, expecting that her readers are already familiar with the causes and magnitude of the problem. Klein has covered a lot of bases in her description of the importance of climate change as an issue demanding concerted action, the social forces which are contributing to the problem or demanding climate action, the weaknesses of frequently touted remedies, the state of the environmental and climate action movements, and possibilities for organizing an effective mass movement. Naomi Klein’s This Changes Everything (2014) is an important contribution to the discussion of strategy and tactics for climate action. NOTE: Images in this archived article have been removed.

Suzy also reads about brave and daring scientists who study jellyfish, and tries to get in contact with them, to work as a team to try and prove her theory about Franny's death. Suzy discovers a ton more about jellyfish than she expected she would, and confides in her science teacher, who helps her form her theory. After the two had a falling out in the sixth grade year, Franny died during the ensuing summer before they had a chance to heal their friendship. During their sixth grade year, Franny became interested in boys and started to join a more popular social circle than the sometimes awkward Suzy, who had been best friends with Franny starting shortly after they met, when they were both five years old. Suzy has started the seventh grade, which is the second year at Eugene Field Middle School in South Grove, Massachusetts. The book follows Suzy Swanson, the protagonist and narrator, who theorizes the death of her friend, Franny Jackson, was caused by a jellyfish sting. i wished we hadn't seen ourselves as a speck of dust, surrounded by so much nothing we were barely even visible." I wished we hadn't gone any farther out, that we hadn't tried to see ourselves from the outer edge of the solar system. Suzy narrates: "I liked the view from 1968 so much better. Markus has some sort of obsession with Fallon and has no compunction against keeping her captive. She is also very afraid of him after seeing him kill someone. Though Fallon is attracted to Markus against her will, she definitely wants to get away from him. The first time they are together seemed basically non-con. This book has triggers so beware if you are upset by things like that. He likes the idea that he owns her and can do whatever he wants with her. I have zero problems with the MM aspect of the this MMF, MFM story, I typically find those quite hot, but I am even finding myself zoning out on these scenes. I like the female narrator, but the male that performs for Hades seems to be overdoing it a bit in the gravelly voice. I think I will take a break from this series for a bit (since I already purchased them all previously) and come back to the rest in hopes that they actually have a viable story line behind it. It is moving very slowly and I am ready to move on. The last book had a story line behind the spice that was able to bring the book along, but this one I am looking at and seeing that I still have an hour left even at x1.4 speed and asking myself what could we possibly do with this story still. Give me it all, but the parts in between the spice are very lackluster. |
